About Us
Mission
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in just about everything, namely, in the myriad layers connecting the worlds that link what is, what we perceive, and what we long for.
With this blog I hope to explore conversations on a range of subjects that illuminate the complexities of life, topics crisscrossing the realms of human behavior, relationships, philosophy, psychology, communication, morality and ethics, creativity, family, innovation, art, commerce, community, and personal responsibility.
The goal is to shake ourselves loose from apathy, resignation, and indifference, and inspire one another toward a more passionate, engaged, honorable, and generous life.
Why the Lion?
The lion is a bold creature and an inspiring symbol. More specifically, though, the idea of its mouth holds a few relevant connotations. On one hand it refers to the place of utterance, of speech, even roaring, which of course is a natural fit for a place of ideas and communication. On the other hand, and perhaps more importantly, it is a reference to someone “placing their head inside the lion’s mouth,” which is to say, an individual deliberately putting themselves in harm’s way.
While putting ourselves into peril on purpose is clearly a bad idea, there is another aspect of this worth exploring, something I’ve learned to access more often in recent years. I’m not referring to foolishness, rash decision-making, or recklessness. I’m talking about the very opposite. If we are to live a good and memorable life, one that resonates beyond our time here, we have to put ourselves into situations that at first feel dangerous, but are later revealed as opportunities for refinement.
We must act even in the presence of fear, not wait for it to dissipate. We must take risks and be willing to navigate the effects of these actions. This is how we grow and mature, how we traverse the unknown, and how we develop greater connections with those we love and create with.
Life, not unlike the lion, is never really safe, but the more we push beyond our fear and resignation, the more gracious the animal of existence becomes. I hope the writings and ideas on this forum inspire you to search all of life with greater passion, understand yourself with new clarity, connect more deeply with others, and live with boldness every day.
